Grand River Community Health Centre (GRCHC) initiated an exploratory study between March and June 2012 to assess need for an educationally focused after-school program in the Eagle Place neighbourhood in Brantford, Ontario, as well as to determine the capacity of the community to support the ongoing development of such programming. With need and capacity identified GRCHC continued the investment and successfully received a one-year Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) grant to continue the community based research and engagement project. This report is a summary of the process and findings of the second phase of this research project (February 2013 to March 2014). Through consultation with key community stakeholders (e.g., interviews and focus groups with youth and parents/guardians from Eagle Place, and the creation of a youth advisory group which participating youth named the Eagle Place Action Crew, or EPAC) we have developed a draft program model to be implemented in September 2014.
This project was funded by the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
